Aldona Kmieć
Aldona Kmieć is a Polish-born photographic artist working between Melbourne and Ballarat. Her practice spans photography and installation, combining conceptual, staged, and documentary approaches. Since migrating to Australia in 2009, she has created work that reflects themes of home, migration, and memory.
Her signature Veil series (2024) invites viewers into a contemplative exploration of femininity, colour, and belonging through long-exposure photographic self-portraits.
Solo exhibitions include Hills Hoist (upcoming, 2025), supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grant; Winterbloom(2023), commissioned by RACV; Neighbourhood Watch (2024) for Banyule City Council; and State Library Victoria documentary commissions (2020–2022). She has been a finalist in several major awards, including the Omnia Art Prize (2025), Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize (2024), CLIP Award (2024), and Bowness Photography Prize (2014).
Aldona’s work has been exhibited widely across Australia, the UK, and Poland, and is held in public and private collections worldwide.
