PAST EXHIBITIONS

Polish Art Foundation wanted to acknowledge an error in relation to the artist statement listed for the works by artist Ryszard Konikowski and featured in the Contemporary Drawing Biennale 2023 catalogue. The correct copy is listed below.

We wanted to offer our most sincere apologies for this unfortunate proof reading mistake.

Time Seized in Drawings: These are the faces of the people I have met. This is how I see them today, years later... Or maybe yesterday? They are in my imagination. These faces of people. Their joys, desires, anxieties, dramas. All that make up our lives. Human stories are "decorated with the optics" of an individual's view of the surroundings of their reality. It is, in a way, an insight into one's own and others' souls. We have the ability to see the world as we want to see it. I try to capture this drama, the character, and the expression on the faces of these people. The mystery they hide. Faces... Always. Alive, with the right to their self-determination. Even...if they are the result of my imagination only. They will be like those "still lives" - suspended in space, covered with the patina of time, but struck by their authenticity, a certain latent brilliance... Everything that is material, spatial and spiritual- these are the FACES I capture them and they will act with their presence. Alive, with the right to their own I AM...The right to self-determination.
